Biography
Les joined the Institute for Research on Public Policy in August 2021, after more than 25 years covering national affairs across Canada. His most recent role prior to assuming the position of Editor-in-chief of Policy Options was as bureau chief and national correspondent for The Globe and Mail in Montreal. Prior to the Globe, he worked in the newsrooms of The Canadian Press, National Post and The Saskatoon StarPhoenix. Les has covered provincial and national politics, and social and justice issues, mainly in the Prairie provinces and Quebec. He also has covered the war in Afghanistan the armed conflict in the Middle East and disasters in Haiti and Kashmir. He has received national journalism awards and nominations for team coverage of mental health issues of Canadian veterans of the war in Afghanistan, the opioid crisis and the Lac-Mégantic rail disaster.
Biography
Evangeline Sadler is deputy editor of Policy Options. She is a veteran editor with more than two decades of experience at the Montreal Gazette, where she started on the news desk and moved through the newsroom. As national editor, she oversaw federal and provincial political coverage, with reporters in the Quebec City and Ottawa bureaus. On the lifestyles side, she shaped content involving food, wine, travel, architecture, design and style. She later edited the opinion section and worked as the extra editor. Evangeline holds a BA in journalism (honours) from Carleton University.
Biography
Kathryn May is a reporter and the Accenture fellow on the Future of the Public Service, providing coverage and analysis of the complex issues facing Canada’s federal public service for Policy Options. She has spent 25 years covering the public service – the country’s largest workforce – and has also covered parliamentary affairs and politics for The Ottawa Citizen, Postmedia Network Inc. and iPolitics. She is also the winner of a National Newspaper Award and a Canadian Online Publishing Award.
Biography
Kathy joined IRPP in January 2025 as deputy editor of French-language content of Policy Options. A journalist for more than 20 years, she has extensive experience in financial, economic and public policy news. She has worked as a journalist for the daily La Tribune de Sherbrooke, Les Affaires newspaper, L’Actualité magazine, Affaires Plus, La Presse and was deputy editor-in-chief of Commerce magazine. In recent years, she has developed her expertise in knowledge transfer and mobilization, helping experts make their deep knowledge accessible to a broader audience. She helped launch the Quebec platform of The Conversation Canada/La Conversation Canada, where she was an editor from 2018 to 2022. Kathy holds a bachelor’s degree in French studies and communications from Université de Sherbrooke and a master’s degree in corporate social responsibility from Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
