Canada’s Council of the Federation needs to take steps to become more effective at influencing the national agenda, says a new IRPP publication. According to author Jared Wesley, the Council can draw some lessons from the National Governors Association in the United States.

Jared J. Wesley is a “pracademic” — a practising political scientist — whose career path has taken him from government boardrooms to university classrooms. Prior to joining the Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta, he served in various senior management roles in the Government of Alberta. He is also Vice Chair of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC) Edmonton Regional Group.
F. Leslie Seidle is director of the research program Canada’s Changing Federal Community at the IRPP and a public policy consultant. He has edited or co-edited 13 books, including Immigrant Integration in Federal Countries (2012) and has published numerous articles on constitutional reform, electoral processes, immigration, public management and political finance.
